On the occasion of the Asian Games in Hangzhou, and commissioned by the renowned pearl brand [Ruan Pearl], the FML art team created an artistic sculpture with profound cultural significance—"The Source of the Lake"—located by the shores of West Lake, with pearls as the central motif.
The sculpture is inspired by the legend of "Dragon and Phoenix Playing with a Pear," the origin story of Hangzhou's West Lake. It seamlessly blends traditional culture with modern art, presenting a unique aesthetic and deep symbolism. According to the legend, a dragon and a phoenix fought over a precious pear in the sky. As they struggled, the pear fell to the ground and transformed into the beautiful West Lake of Hangzhou.
The artwork "Essence of Lake" elegantly melds Eastern philosophy into the sculpture, taking the form of a pearl-inspired structure. Using minimalist and abstract forms, it transforms West Lake's scenery into a harmonious blend of "Yin" and "Yang." One side cascades with layered ripples, while the other boasts a smooth, reflective surface. A string of pearls connects the two sides of West Lake's landscape.
The sculpture stands tall at approximately 3 meters, sculpted from high-quality stainless steel. inside the sculpture, LED lights are embedded, casting a captivating and technical light display as night falls. The dance of light, mirroring the waters of West Lake, reflects a balance between "Yin"and "Yang," creating a lively interplay of solid and void. As viewers adjust their angles, the sculpture offers diverse visual experiences, reminiscent of luminous pearls and shimmering water drops. it captures the essence of both the audience and the city of Hangzhou.
This sculpture not only carries on the cultural heritage of Hangzhou's West Lake but also blends modern technological culture with contemporary commercial art space in an innovative display. Its graceful form and dynamic posture convey the pursuit of harmony, balance, and happiness in life.
