CO-ART | FIBER MY LIFE
2025 The first Fiber handicraft experience workshop
In early April 2025, FML launched its inaugural art workshop series themed Interwoven Souls, Unfettered Dialogues at Huzhou Hanshan Future·Hechuang Valley Youth Innovation Center. Collaborating with three avant-garde fiber artists, the two-day immersive art experience program redefined public engagement through tactile explorations of "code-knitting" techniques and algorithm-driven textile installations, blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary spatial narratives.

Compared to other fiber art forms, wool felting stands out as one of the finest mediums for expressing primitive vitality and exploring material language, thanks to its unique fiber sculpting properties and organic material affinity. From the survival craftsmanship of prehistoric nomadic tribes to avant-garde experiments in contemporary art museums, this ancient medium continues to radiate timeless creativity.
Artist Li Ying's personal works predominantly focus on fiber art installations and woven wall hangings. The collaborative art workshop course with FML distills wool felting techniques from her daily artistic practice. Through simple hands-on experiences, the workshop aims to demonstrate the artistic allure of wool as a medium to the public.

03 | Creative Chinese Knot Braiding Experience Workshop
The Chinese people hold a unique understanding of the "knot" (结 jié), a symbol deeply rooted in cultural consciousness that embodies reunion and fulfillment. Traditional Chinese knots manifest in diverse forms—such as the Panchang Knot (Endless Loop), Jixiang Knot (Auspicious Knot), Ruyi Knot (Wish-Granting Knot), and Tongxin Knot (Unity Knot)—each carrying distinct blessings and poetic symbolism. These intricate creations have endured as beloved cultural symbols through generations, weaving together craftsmanship and philosophical meaning.
Artist Li Wen reimagines this heritage by merging traditional knotting techniques with unconventional fibrous materials, injecting a contemporary twist into the ancient art form. Her revitalized Chinese knots pulse with youthful energy, bridging ancestral wisdom and modern aesthetics. Participants in her workshops not only master foundational braiding methods but also learn to incorporate personalized elements—transforming threads into narratives imbued with their own hopes and aspirations.

04 | Creative Chinese Knot Braiding Experience Workshop
In this era dominated by machinery and digitality, yarn entwined around fingertips embodies the primal romance of creation. As both a fundamental material for daily textile production and a vital medium for fiber art, wool thread carries dual significance in bridging utility and artistic expression.
In this workshop, artist Xie Shaofeng demonstrates the complete creative process of working with yarn—from color curation and thread winding to shaping and finishing techniques. Guided by the artist, participants will explore the alchemy of chromatic harmonies, crafting portable warmth-infused artifacts with their own hands. The experience becomes a sensory meditation, immersing participants in the therapeutic journey of witnessing loose fibers coalesce into tangible warmth within their palms.
