Commissioned by Tuochuan Township District, Wuyuan, Jiangxi Province, in collaboration with the Landscape Architecture Design and Research Institute of the China Academy of Fine Arts, FML Art Studio developed a series of public artworks for Tuochuan Huang Village and Jinguangling Village. After conducting extensive preliminary investigations, site visits, and cultural research over several months, the creative team drew inspiration from the villages' rich traditional heritage and natural environment, integrating these elements into their designs to reflect and celebrate local identity.

Wind from mountains
The wind blows, the white windmill begins to rotate, and the birds start to tremble in the fields, as if dancing in the idyllic scenery of Wuyuan. The overall shape of the work uses the structural characteristics of origami to splicing into a rotating windmill. Each fold is composed of paper-cut and carving elements. The inspiration comes from the natural landscape such as villages and mountains and rivers with the characteristics of Wuyuan.

Wings in the valley
Inspired by the form of wings, the design abstracts feathers and wings to create a logo installation with an architectural aesthetic, characterized by smooth, elegant curves and dynamic structures. Resembling outstretched wings, the installation appears to soar gracefully in the skies of Wuyuan. Constructed from painted stainless steel combined with mirror-finished stainless steel, the mirrored surfaces on the wings reflect the surrounding environment, changing with different viewing angles to create a dynamic and immersive experience.

Birds in the field
The installation is positioned at the entrance of Jinguangling Village. In a region known for its abundant birdlife and the soothing sounds of birdsong, these bird sculptures appear to seamlessly integrate with nature. Presented in a simple, fresh white hue, the birds hover gently over the fields. Their graceful forms and light postures convey a welcoming presence, guiding visitors into the beauty of Jinguangling Village.

Exchange with literature
The elevated bridge serves as the structural framework of the installation, with its columns skillfully wrapped and adorned with imagery reflecting the unique landscapes and cultural elements of Wuyuan. Suspended from the beams are hangings resembling valances, made of semi-transparent white gauze, upon which inked verses by literature celebrate the beauty of Wuyuan's scenery. The collage depicts iconic Hui-style architecture, terraced fields, golden rapeseed blossoms, and the agricultural labor scenes—such as the pepper-printing fields—central to the region's identity. These segmented images, combined with calligraphic poetry, fuse literary expression with the local traditions and customs of Wuyuan, creating a dynamic, three-dimensional portrait of the area.
